In November 1996, Jesse Kalisher, who writes a research column in Brandweek magazine, told the story of a brand manager he knew who recommended that the company introduce her product in a large size. The recommendation floated easily through her division, only to be held up by corporate.

 

The brand group was then instructed to take two different large sizes that were mere ounces apart to focus groups before a new size would be approved.
