Targeted Business Mailing Lists - Facts:
List brokers and special Web service companies also negotiate the use of links and sell space on Web banners. Many industries have Web sites that serve as directories or clearing houses for vendors and customers. In the real estate business, for example, one site has become the focal point for agents, vendors, and people shopping for a home.
If you're a real estate agent or broker you need to be listed with the International Real Estate Directory, ired.com. Surf the Web, talk to others in your industry, and run some exhaustive search engine searches and you should find the important referral sites in your business. In the first year or so of dramatic Web expansion some banners were priced higher than network television commercials.
When advertisers didn't buy, prices came down. Banner advertising can even be keyed to individual Web site visitors. While some malls are little more than an index filled with links, others tie their stores together with secure transaction services, product search engines, personal shoppers, and other services. Before you join a mall find out what you receive for your rent. Ask about the mall's advertising and publicity programs.
Visit cyber malls. Yahoo! maintains an extensive list. Use your creativity to barter for links. You could create a directory of top sites in your industry or area of interest, then ask the owners of the sites you list to provide a link to your site. Small business groups sometimes share a Web site or have reciprocal links. Dave Forman, owner of Pour Masters, a custom bar catering service in Phoenix, heads a network of small businesses that provides services for weddings.
Recently the group started a cooperative Web site called Arizona Wedding Professionals. Each of the dozen or so members of the group, including a photographer, tuxedo rental firm, and singer, has separate Web pages linked to the home page. Forman, who sells his bartending services to corporations and business groups, as well as brides and grooms, says the Web has yet to produce much business for him.
He searches the Web looking for sites where he can obtain free links and says he's considering buying banner advertising. He says he's had "discussions" with his Web service provider over his need to make frequent changes in his site. Forman says regular changes are necessary to keep his site fresh and provide a reason for people to return to it. He also promotes his bartending business through sales calls, broadcast faxing, and other forms of direct marketing.
Theoretically you join a mall because its advertising and promotion create B2B traffic.
