Services Marketing
Use your imagination to think of ways to involve your readers with your product One of the most intriguing involvement devices recently was a packet of litmus paper mailed with a small bar of Dove® soap. A direct response ad for gourmet mail-order coffee had a flap over the top portion of the ad and instructions to the reader to open it. Direct mail lets you send samples of your product or service. Some mail-order clothing merchants send fabric swatches. Package goods manufacturers mail small, sample-size boxes of their products. Direct marketers have mailed diskettes, CDs, cassette tapes, and tickets to events.

Services Marketing info: Nonprofit Marketing Surrogates for Judgment When a product is high in credence quality, consumers use surrogate cues to make judgments. One such cue is price. Many people equate high-priced services with greater value, low-priced services with less value. Another cue is physical features, such as how the service provider dresses or the appearance or location of offices. The quality of car service may be judged by such a small thing as the cleanliness of the shop's restroom. See also New Business Mailing Lists.
