Write 100 good lines, then go back and select the best of the best. They should make the recipient stop cold in whatever he's doing, and make him want to open the envelope, no, insist on opening the package. Create a package that demands to be opened. If your teaser copy isn't that good, don't use it.

 

Like the headline of an ad, the copy on an envelope has to be great, sensational, and terrific - all wrapped into just a few words. Solicit friends and neighbors to write user benefit lines for you. Remember these need wide appeal; they must be customer-benefit-oriented (biggest-benefit theory would apply here), and enticing, or teasing enough to make sure every reader is curious enough to open the envelope to look for the answer.

 

They also must remain as general as possible to attract and intrigue the widest range of people. This is your one chance to get your package opened, you have five seconds. This copy better be good.
